reading

The other day I was told that reading to your infant for 20 minutes a day, even now, is beneficial to their brain development. Even if it ends up not true, I kind of like the idea. See, I LOVE reading. I always have and I probably always will. Last January I went through I think 6 books in that month. Yeah, I can read FAST. (I have to like the book though) I just barely finished the harry potter series. I started in the middle of August and finished a week or so ago. The only reason it took me that long to read the series is because, well, I gave birth and I had a newborn. but all in all I finished it!
So I was kind of bummed when I was told that reading to your baby was beneficial. I could have started her early on the Harry potter books! See, it doesnt matter what you read to them, as long as your reading to them. Of course I wouldn't read anything innapropriate lol So cosmopolition magazine probably isn't a good choice..
so I racked my brains to try and come up with a good book to read to her at night and luckily for me, a year or so ago I bought a book with all of the Hans Christian Anderson fairytails! perfect! I mean his fairytails are on the slight spooky side, but their something that aren't to kid to read and something thats not to adult for her (although she has no idea what the heck I'm reading to her) Plus his fairytales have a splash of moral lessons in them.  (if your not familiar with Hans Christian Anderson he wrote stories like thumbelina, the little mermaid and the princess and the pea.) The stories are definetly not the disney version, for instance in the little mermaid, the little mermaid turns into sea foam at the end. Not quite the happy ending..
but anyways, I was having some trouble getting Ev to fall asleep. She likes to fight sleep and when you finally get her to relax she somehow manages to stay awake enough to peek to see if your still holding her. So I read thumbelina to her while I was rocking her and guess what?! She fell asleep! I'm not sure if was because of the story but it helped me be more patient while rocking her which allowed her to fully fall asleep. soo good. I think I'll keep this up!
