Listen

The other day me and my friend Nikki were discussing diabetes camp. She mentioned that the last session she went to they watched a video based on Diabetes in other countries, Such as: Nepal, Ecuador, Bangladesh, Haiti, Nigeria and many many more.
I never really thought about diabetes in those countries. Or really anywhere else for that matter. I know diabetes is a worldwide thing but when you think of those countries you think of other problems they face such as poverty or lack of clean water supplies. Other diseases but not ones like diabetes.
It other places such as America, diabetes is a livable disease. I'm proof you can lead a fairly normal life with type 1 diabetes. We have access to doctors, medicine, sterile supplies ect. We have the privilege of managing our diabetes to the best of our abilities and lead a very normal life. Kids with type 1 diabetes can do anything they want, we can play, dance, run, sing, go to school, work, grow old, have families, and so much more because we have the access to good health care.
Diabetes is NOT a death sentence.
but in other countries, such as the ones I listed. It is a death sentence. These kids don't have the means to be able to properly take care of diabetes. They have to live without insulin and supplies and that results in death. Its estimated that many kids that are diagnosed with diabetes in these countries die within the first year. Many die undiagnosed.
Most people experience the effects of diabetes much later in life. That includes: kidney failure, eye problems, oral health problems, amputation and much more. The effects of diabetes is harsh and a horrible thing to have to go through. and these kids really don't have a choice.
When i thought of this and my own experience of being diabetic, it made me ashamed to say that I have all this opportunity to take care of myself and I don't take advantage of it. I don't use the opportunity I have. Its unfair that these kids have to live without and i live with but still don't take care of myself like I should. Its unfair that a lot of diabetic kids in America do this. Why are we not taking care of ourselves when we have all the advantages to? Its ridiculous!

Well this is inspiration enough to make me want to take care of myself. I have what I need to and I should. Plus I found a website in which you can donate to help these children get the supplies they need and be able to get the care they need. This money goes to children in 26 countries. Plus they have videos posted that explain everything and show whats happening. I recommend watching and better yet donating!
